Living in a tiny space means constantly tidying up so it's always a pleasant place to spend time. And as a 20-something just nine months out of college, it can be a headache picking up expensive cleaning products all the time.
This all-purpose cleaner costs just cents to make and lasts FOREVER. It comes courtesy of my superwoman mom, who swears by it for soaking hard-to-clean pots and pans, cutting kitchen grease on the stove, cleaning the shower/tub, speed cleaning the floors, and so much more.
White distilled vinegar costs just over a dollar for 2 quarts. Pick it up anywhere—the grocery store, drugstore, dollar store. You'll also need to pick up blue Dawn. It has to be blue, the original scent and formula. I picked up my squirt bottle at the dollar store and it works as well as any I've used from Target.
In the squirt bottle, mix 1/2 cup Dawn with 2 cups vinegar. You don't need any water to dilute the mixture—that's what makes it so high-powered. I would wager, though, that you could dilute it if you wanted it to last EVEN LONGER.
Shake the mixture up, and it should end up foamy and smelly (like vinegar).
Now, you can use it anywhere in your home! I would stay away from using it on hardwood, obviously, but countertops, tile, and plastic are all fair game.
Also, do you know how to clean your coffee maker? It's easy! Fill the water reserve half full with white vinegar and run a brew cycle. Obviously, don't put any grounds in! When that's done, rinse the coffee pot out and fill all the way with water. Run a brew cycle with just water. Repeat that step 2 more times to remove all traces of vinegar.
You should do this at least monthly—this will keep your coffee maker running smoothly and your coffee tasting fresh and flavorful!
Now get cleaning!
