THREE-INGREDIENT PASTA SAUCE
This rich, flavorful pasta sauce is for those nights where you get home late, are too tired to plan out dinner, but still want something that warms you up and satisfies everybody at the dinner table. Oh, and did I mention it's just 3 ingredients? That you should have on hand at all times anyway!?
Yes, you read that right. A big can of unsalted crushed tomatoes. An onion. Almost a whole stick of butter.
All of these things get tossed into a big saucepan with salt to taste and simmered for 45 minutes. It's worth the wait, because the flavors that are able to develop in this time are TOO good. During that last 10ish minutes of simmering, you'll prepare the pasta shape of your choice.
1 can (28 oz) unsalted crushed tomatoes
5 tbsp unsalted butter
1 medium onion, halved + peeled (you can use the whole onion if you want!)
salt, to taste
1. combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. bring to a simmer.
2. lower the heat to keep the sauce at a slow, steady simmer for about 45 minutes. stir occasionally.
3. in the last 10-12 minutes of simmering (time depends on how long your pasta needs to cook!), prepare pasta. i used whole wheat spaghetti.
4. remove from heat, discard the onion, and serve on top of pasta immediately. if desired, top with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
